Third time’s a charm

Find out the secret behind the design thinking of the TING game.
When it comes to pleasing the human brain, it seems like three is simply a magic number.

>>> LET THE GAMES BEGIN
It’s no coincidence that the number three is common throughout literature, science, philosophy (Trichotomy), art (Photography), media and is an essential part of human culture.
Ting about it, famous stories, fairy tales, and quotes, in comedy, art, music (rhythm) and even in the military. The #3 works its wonders!
How come?
It all comes down to the way we humans process information. We have become proficient at pattern recognition by necessity, and three “3” is the smallest number of elements required to create a pattern… and it can be used also to come up with NEW IDEAS.
This simplest combination of pattern results in memorable content, and that’s why the TING game will make you a more engaging and creative innovator.
Some examples before we start to play:
Have you ever pondered?
- What the Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the Three Musketeers, the Three Wise Men and the Three Stooges have in common?
- Why the three-act structure is the dominant approach to screenwriting in Hollywood?
- Why three bullet points are more effective than two or four?
Similarly, adjectives are often grouped in threes to emphasize an idea.
For example:
- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
- Ethos. Pathos. Logos.
- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
…
If you want something stuck in someone’s head, put it in a sequence of three, like: a Jewish, a Christian and a Muslim walk into a bar… (It’s all we remember from the joke — right?) But if you start analyze joke’s structure you may find something very interesting that will help you better remember the punchline. The Rule of Three fits the classic joke structure of:
- Set-up,
2. Anticipation,
3. Punchline.
The three-part grouping also allows for tension to build and then be released thanks to the surprise and absurdity contained in the third element.
You see the Rule of Three used all the time across diverse areas of life. Why?
Because information presented in groups of three sticks in our heads better than other clusters of items.
Shall we play?
Here is a combination of 3:
